Sacred Heart High School
Mary Beth (Dignan) Oravec

1967
Marital Status:Joseph (Joe) - married in 1972
Children:Joseph Patrick(Joey) 1980
Daniel James (Dan) 1984
Grand-children:Someday, godwilling. We are not in a rush the choice isn’t ours! We hope our guys meet the right gals.
Occupation:Although I did complete a bachelors degree in art/interior design, I spent most of the last few decades raising my family while concurrently performing elder care for much loved parents who died at 92 and 93 after an amazing 70 years of marriage.
So now I'm currently a full time volunteer. Although major childrearing is behind me, I expect to continue parental anxiety far into the future! I’m good at it.
Hobbies:Hm. I guess I’d say I "do" theatre. I have designed some and painted alot of theatrical sets and costumed through the years. Now I am pretty involved in Dearborn Area Theatre Association and have recently organized some high school scholarships through that organization.

Other than that, I like a nice flower garden - but can’t say I like pulling weeds!
School Memories: For me it was pretty much a time filled with all the usual angst of teens ... Feeling on the outside until I realized that friends are where one makes them. I do remember fearing the nuns’ predictions that average high school grades predicted doom in college (which I fortunately disproved - I guess our college prep was good).

Let's see .... I definitely remember Cruising the Graf in my brother’s 64 Mustang convertible or my dad’s black continental that we affectionately called the Boblo boat, gas being cheap but my dad buying it all ... Grand River Macs where Barb LaManes got her first traffic ticket for looping the lot ... Mr. Peters throwing erasers at kids ... never really "getting geometry" but liking advanced algebra ... hm ... weekend dancing at the Pit or school dances or open houses ... Booie Steslicki pulling my braids ... cold toes skiing at Alpine valley with the new ski club senior year or “traying” down trashcan hill in Hines Drive park ... struggling to adjust to contact lenses ... and Nancy Steslicki and I wearing some of the first miniskirt dresses on our uniform skip days! Loving Paul Revere and the Raiders with all the fervor a teeny bopper could in the 60’s and seeing them in concert. And, meeting a "public" in January 1967 who I was destined marry.
Comments:Embrace only your happiest memories from growing up. Get over hurts, life is too short. Rekindle old friendships, repair the broken, and start some new. Look ahead to the future with optimism and find a way to enjoy every day. Invest in kids, they are the future.
